How to Determine if Your Skin Tone is Warm or Cool.
Observe the color of your veins on the inside of your arm. Veins that appear green indicate that you have a warm (yellow) undertone. Veins that appear more blue indicate that you have cool (pink) undertones. Another method is to hold a white object next to a clean face to see if your face looks yellow (warm) or blue (cool) in comparison.
Cool Skin Tones: Usually have light colored eyes (blue, green, or grey) and have blond, black, or brown hair. Cool skin tone individuals look best in shades such as blue, red, and purple.
Warm Skin Tones: Often have dark eyes (brown, black, or hazel eyes) with black, brown, blond, red, or strawberry blond hair. Warm tones will look best in earth shades such as browns, yellows, oranges and cream.
Neutral Skin Tones:Those with no obvious pink or yellow tones to their skin can wear any shade!
What Colors Fall into Warm, Cool or Neutral?
Warm Colors: Include browns, rust, orange, peaches, gold, brick red, bronzes, green
Cool Colors: Include pinks, purple, blue, silver, emerald green, true red, black, white, plum
Neutral Colors: Include any shade found above
Tip: Can't find the perfect shade? Try mixing more than one shade together!
Tip: Uneven skin tone? Try mixing a cool (pink shade) with a warm (yellow shade).
Skin Tones:
There are many levels of depth (lightness or darkness) to the skin. The first level being the lightest (very pale or porcelain) and the highest level being the darkest (ebony).
When choosing a foundation, you must first match the depth and then the undertone. Most women will have warm undertones, with only a few having cool undertones. Warm (yellow) shades will complement almost any skin tone, and you will notice that most of the Rejuva Minerals shades are warm. Also, warm shades can actually help to counteract skin conditions, such as Rosacea. Pink shades should be reserved for those who have pink undertones in both the face "and" neck, which is uncommon. Cool (pink) shades on top of a pink face can appear "red", which can make the skin appear unnatural and older. Generally, those with cool undertones will have dark hair with pale skin and eyes.
On the other hand, woman with dark (ebony) skin should try to match their undertones as closely as possible. Gold-Orange tones work best for brightening ebony skin tones.
What is the best way to find the right shade?
One of the best ways to find a color match, is to choose several shades, and then compare them side by side.
In natural lighting, try the following technique:
For those with light skin tones (Ivory - Beige), apply the shades side by side in a line, from just above your "jawline to your neck". Once the powders have mixed with the natural oils in your skin, you can then determine which shade is the closest match to your skin tone. Select the shade that is the closest match to your neck.
For those with darker skin tones (ebony and bronze), apply the shades "mid-face and extend down into the jaw area", following the same rules as above.
*Hint: Most of the time, Italian, African-American, Asian and Hispanic women will have warm undertones, and those with brown or green eyes are generally warm.
